It’s day three at MWC 2025 and breaking the back of this year’s event was another jam-packed schedule of announcements, panel talks and industry recognitions with innovation and inclusivity at the fore.
Key announcements
To kick off, SK Telecom announced a strategic partnership with Schneider Electric to drive the global expansion of AI data centres. The collaboration aims to integrate energy-efficient solutions with advanced AI infrastructure, optimising data centres’ power consumption, cooling, and sustainability. By combining SK Telecom’s AI expertise with Schneider Electric’s energy management solutions, the partnership seeks to enhance data centre performance while supporting the growing demand for AI-driven services worldwide.
Leader in digital BSS, Qvantel, announced a major contract with VEON to provide managed services for BSS operations across VEON’s digital operators. VEON’s companies, including Jazz in Pakistan, Banglalink in Bangladesh, and Kyivstar in Ukraine, serve approximately 160M connectivity customers and 100M monthly active digital service users.
Industry talks and keynotes
GSMA CMO Lara Dewar hosted a fireside chat with Rika Nakazawa, Chief Commercial Innovation, NTT Data Inc. and Ayumi Moore Aoki, Founder & CEO, Women in Tech Global, on gender inclusivity in STEM. The trio highlighted the upcoming Women in Tech Global Summit in Osaka, Japan, and introduced the Osaka Protocol, a new initiative promoting gender equality in STEM careers and education.
Two major publishers also shared details of their AI strategies in a keynote. Axios’ Nicholas Johnston explained his approach involves discerning what AI can do instead of humans rather than trying to replace his journalists, freeing up his staff to focus on quality and accuracy.
For Johnston, humans must remain the key ingredient in honest, transparent and trustworthy journalism. TIME’s CEO Jessica Sibley agreed but added that transformation is also vital to keep pace with emerging trends and technologies.
Awards and recognitions
Day three also marked the 30th anniversary of the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMOs), recognising pioneers and innovators in the mobile industry. Totogi is amongst the nominees, which will be announced during tonight’s ceremony streamed on Mobile World Live. Tune in live or check out tomorrow’s blog where we’ll reveal this year’s winners!
Today also saw the final heat of this year’s Pitch2Pitch competition, the Dragon’s Den of the mobile industry. Startups exhibiting at the event were given the chance to pitch their products to industry leaders and investors. This year’s winner was announced as D-Carbonize, a climate-tech startup helping companies measure and reduce their carbon footprint with accounting software.
