Liberty goes for gold in the 2013 EMEA SABRE awards Certificate of Excellence awarded and shortlist nomination achieved

By | Agency News | No Comments

Liberty Comms, the specialist technology communications consultancy, announced that it has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence in the 2013 EMEA Silver SABRE awards and in addition, has also been shortlisted for a Gold award in the consumer electronics category.  Finalists for the latter category were selected from a record of more than 2,400 entries with winners set to be announced on 30th May in Barcelona.

Silver SABRE awards are given to those companies that demonstrate excellence in content creation, creative product and PR agency management. This year, Liberty was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in the PR product of the Year category for the development of its Liberty Index measurement tool, the only boutique agency winner in this category.

Nick Lane, head of measurement, Liberty Communications, said, “AVE is no longer an adequate assessment of campaign success as it is simply not detailed or informative enough and it gives no indication of whether a campaign message was received or which tactics flourished or fell short. The Liberty Index addresses this issue by going beyond campaign metrics to trend coverage based on a company’s media landscape, sentiment of coverage and coverage type. It offers transparent analysis of a clients’ penetration of target media and gives both our team and our clients the critical insights vital to developing any ongoing PR plan to be suitable for the long term and to better align to our clients’ business objectives.”

Liberty’s campaign for the launch of Root Classic has earned it a place on the shortlist for best ‘consumer electronics’ campaign. Gold SABRE awards require those nominated to demonstrate success in terms of campaign metrics, KPIs and also ROI. Liberty’s simple but effective PR campaign did just that.

Dee Gibbs, managing director and founder, Liberty Communications, said, “Sales are the ultimate goal for all of our clients but for consumer technology companies in particular, these are a crucial measure of success. Our media knowledge is invaluable to address this. Securing the right pieces of coverage can be the difference between success and failure and the targeted campaign we designed for Root Classic is testament to this. On review of the campaign, a massive 20 per cent of all sales were attributed to a single review – an ROI of £7 per £1 spent and a fantastic achievement for both Root Classic and Liberty as a communications team.”

What PR firm do you recommend with mobile experience?

By | Agency News | No Comments

I’d very much welcome your suggestions for public relations firms (and/or individuals) working in the mobile space.

The reason I ask is that I’m trying to put a reasonably comprehensive list together.

Every week I get emails from people asking for suggestions for companies to meet. I have got my favourites (some of whom I list below), but I’d like to actually publish a list.

I get the impression from a lot of the enquiries that they’re pretty urgent. So when I respond days later by email, I often worry that I’m not fast enough — hence my intent to create a list.

Googling “Mobile PR” or “mobile public relations” or “wireless public relations” will yield you a few results I’m sure. But there are a ton more agencies out there. Many of the best aren’t actually dedicated to mobile, but instead are “tech focused” with a mobile practice or specialism.

Elena Davidson, client services director, said, “We want to be able to help nurture the PR and marketing stars of the future and we really believe that the Liberty Academy can be the first stepping stone for young people to build a promising career. Best practices are the building blocks of a successful working life and as an agency who works hard to instil them in our existing team, we want to drive the same standards in the teams of the future.”

Liberty won Pathfinders’ Media Employer of the Year in 2012 for its ability to develop its staff. Criteria associated with the award included the approach to people strategy, recruitment, induction, appraisals and mentoring.  To inspire other companies to follow its lead Dee Gibbs will act as a judge for 2013 award entrants.

Liberty scoops Media Employer of the year award

By | Agency News | No Comments

Last night at the W Hotel saw Liberty Comms, the specialist technology communications consultancy collect the coveted title of Pathfinders Media Employer of the year.

The Pathfinders Media Employer of the year is the UK’s only annual award that recognises the ability of media companies to inspire and develop their staff. The award is independently judged and identifies and rewards those companies which invest in their people and ensures the media and marcoms industries continue to attract the best and brightest candidates from across the UK and around the globe.

This year’s Media Employer of the Year judging panel consisted of judges from 2011 winner of Media Employer of the Year, Firefish; Cohn & Wolfe; Journey HR, and IIP assessor & owner of Media Network, Bruce Macrae.

Liberty was recognised for its impressive approach to people strategy, as well as its comprehensive methodical approach for recruitment, inductions, appraisals and mentoring – all of which echoed the values of the agency. It also stood out for its approach to celebrating success at all stages of employee’s career, and for promoting a culture which fosters creativity and encourages new ideas throughout all levels of the company.

Managing Director and Founder of Liberty, Dee Gibbs was at the ceremony to collect the award and tweeted immediately after the success: “Media Employer of the Year Award! We are so proud. Well done team!”

She went on to say; “it’s a huge accolade for us to join such a select group of past winners – Firefish, Addiction Worldwide, Agency Republic and Blue Rubicon to name but four – especially seeing as we were by far and away the smallest agency shortlisted this year.
“It just goes to show that good things come in small packages and that our company ethos of employing and fostering talented comms and media people works, and is being recognised by the industry as a whole.

“With plans to open a New York office in 2013, this award should stand us in good stead with recruitment and enable us to continue to attract as high a calibre of individual in the States that we do in the UK – it will also make a welcome addition to our creative showcase in the office!”

Liberty announces launch of New York Office

By | Agency News | No Comments

Liberty Communications, the specialist technology communications consultancy, today announced its plans to open a New York office in early 2013 with a number of retained and project based clients.

Liberty meets Liberty NYC

This will represent the first of two planned offices to open in the United States and sets a precedent for the company’s ambitious growth plans.

Dee Gibbs, Managing Director and Founder of Liberty Communications, said: “Liberty has built a successful business in the European market for our North American-based clients and we are increasingly being asked to provide support in their local market under the Liberty brand. New York is the first city in which we will deploy a Liberty-owned venture, but this is just the start.”

To ensure success in North America, Liberty is currently recruiting for a US-based team who will help use their personal networks to grow the North American business. The selected candidate will join the current leadership team including Nick Lane, Alexis Dalrymple, Elena Davidson and Matt Wood in developing long term business development plans and ensuring that all clients benefit from the company’s integrated marketing, PR and digital service strategy approach.

“Too many firms rely too heavily on sending UK-based staff out to build North American business, but that approach means local knowledge of the market and the technology landscape just doesn’t exist. Many of our clients want local support from Liberty because they believe in its creativity, passion and unique approach to dedicated client services. These approaches lie at the very core of Liberty’s modus operandi, and will continue to sit at the heart of the business, no matter where our offices are located.

“By opening and staffing a New York office with local specialists we will be coupling regional expertise and known how with our distinctive Liberty way, and the next six months represents an enormously exciting period of opportunities for Liberty,” added Gibbs.

Dee Gibbs, Liberty Comms – Taking the 10,000-year view

By | Agency News | No Comments

In a recent interview with Metro, Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said that he is taking the 10,000-year view.

Among other amazing extra-curricular activities such as a privately funded space exploration company, he has just spent $42m building a clock inside a Texan mountain that aims to run for 10,000 years. Not only that, it emits daily chimes created by Brian Eno. Very cool.

One of the fantastic things about technology PR is that there are lots of people like Jeff Bezos, revolutionaries who have made huge amounts of money developing new ways of doing things and who are only just getting into their stride.

But the passion is not just about space rockets and giant clocks. Bill and Melinda Gates, through their foundation, are using technology to change millions of lives, for example with a toilet that uses no water. This is technology at its very best.

Building Reputations: The importance of customer service to your business

By | Agency News | No Comments

A brands image is undeniably linked to its reputation for customer service[b/]. Consumers expect no frills airlines to provide no frills service and expect high end clothing stores to offer high end service. Customer experience is also undeniably linked to profitability. Recent Maritz research showed that twice as many as car dealerships with low satisfaction went out of business in recession as those with high scores.

Despite the undeniable link between customer service and profitability, many providers of B2B services including marketing and PR fail to focus on customer happiness…

Specialist technology PR and marketing consultancy liberty launches liberty Consulting

liberty, the specialist technology PR and marketing consultancy, today announced the launch of its new service offering, liberty Consulting.  Following the expansion of its services portfolio to include marketing and digital services in 2007, the agency has now formed a new venture to provide a holistic sales, PR and marketing solution to companies looking to establish themselves in the European market

The new company will be managed by Nigel Pollard, Director of liberty Consulting, who will work closely with Stephen Sharp and Dee Gibbs, the joint MDs of liberty.  In his new role, Nigel will be promoting a full-service sales and marketing portfolio to enable smaller companies who wish to enter Europe the opportunity to do so in a cost-effective way.  Acting as an outsourced business development resource, the liberty Consulting will look to provide everything from a regional point of presence without the high level of investment normally associated with a local footprint. The proposition will also be attractive for larger, established organisations who wish to outsource their business development or sales and marketing function as budgets continue to be challenged in the current economic climate.

Commenting on the new company, Nigel Pollard, Director of liberty Consulting said: Whilst assisting start-ups to enter the European market to compete against larger, entrenched competition, we identified that these complementary services were needed to localise, position and increase awareness of vendors brands to make their business a success.

Its the right time to be offering a service to companies who may otherwise think twice about expanding into new territories. We increase their chance of success whilst further reducing the risk, enabling the CEO to concentrate on his core business with the confidence that we can provide a comprehensive level of support, ranging from a local office and telephone answering service, to strategic business development and marketing services.

Our clients have been delighted to hear about these additional services and have already started to use them. Nigel has worldwide management experience in sales and marketing in the technology sector and has built a wealth of corporate company knowledge from multi-national firms such as Andrew and Harris Corporation.  More recently, Nigel led an international sales team at Altos Advisors – a consultancy specialising in the support of early stage companies – helping to establish a European footprint.  Nigel holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Communications Engineering and an MBA.

Were often asked to help clients with deeper industry relationships and a wider remit of services, commented Dee Gibbs, PR lead at liberty.  The Consulting side of the business will now be able to develop new markets and establish a sales channel for a range of new and existing customers where it may have been prohibitive due to costs previously.
