Day two of MWC 2025 in Barcelona has kept the AI train rolling. Big players have announced ambitious partnerships and innovations that could shake up the industry.

AI everywhere, all at once

AI continues to be a major theme. One standout announcement is the news that AMD, Cisco, Nokia, and Jio Platforms are teaming up on an Open Telecom AI Platform – a “central intelligence layer” embedding AI into every layer of network operations. Think Agentic AI, LLMs, SLMs, and next-gen machine learning driving the future of telecoms.

The second thing that made me fan-girl about AI today was comments from Mistral AI’s CEO Arthur Mensch, who called on Europe to step up its AI game to stay competitive against the US and China. His message? Innovate fast, invest big, and don’t compromise on data privacy.

As we all try to increasingly integrate AI across operations, Mensch’s comments highlight a growing conversation – who will lead the future of AI, and what role will Europe play? I’m definitely going to keep my eye on that.

A throwback to the Wild West of the web

Stepping away from AI and towards something that made me very nostalgic; super apps aren’t new, but Tencent Cloud is levelling them up with their “Super App as a Service.” This service lets any app become a full-fledged super app with unlimited mini-apps and games.

It’s giving early 2000s Bravenet vibes – remember when you could slap a free guestbook or forum onto your site (ads included)? The monetisation model has evolved, but the idea is the same: instant expansion with plug-and-play features.

Sustainability takes the spotlight

Green tech is climbing the telecom agenda, and Tecnotree is ensuring it stays there. The company’s discussions on day two of MWC centred on balancing sustainability with business growth because differentiation is about more than just tech in a world where AI is everywhere.

Operators are shifting from copper to ‘green gold’ – recycling old networks, investing in renewables, and using AI to optimise energy. Sustainability is no longer just a corporate buzzword, it’s a brand strategy.

With two days down, the announcements keep coming. What’s next? Stay tuned – we’ll continue to break down the biggest trends catching our eyes in Barcelona. Until tomorrow!
