Bluesky is having its moment. Since the U.S. election earlier this month, the platform has seen a remarkable jump in users, growing from 13 million to over 18 million seemingly overnight. It’s not just the numbers that stand out—it’s a larger narrative on a shifting and splintering social media landscape.

In an era dominated by algorithm-heavy platforms, where feeds are often cluttered with engagement bait or polarizing content, Bluesky has a feel of a return to basics. There’s no algorithm feed pushing you in a predetermined direction. Instead, users enjoy a clean, human-centric experience—posts from accounts they follow or curated feeds tailored to their interests. It’s the kind of control that feels radical in today’s digital world.

Take starter packs, for example. This feature lets users curate lists of up to 150 accounts, making it easy for newcomers to find their tribe. These packs, like “critical tech voices” or hobby-specific lists, transform the daunting process of building a social network into something seamless and meaningful. It’s the kind of user-first thinking that has made Bluesky not just an alternative to traditional platforms but a destination in its own right.

Of course, no platform is perfect. Bluesky has faced challenges, particularly with concerns around content moderation for sensitive issues like international politics and war. But what’s striking is the transparency and responsiveness of its leadership. Whether it’s confirming that user data won’t be used to train AI models or exploring non-intrusive monetization like subscription-based features, Bluesky’s approach feels refreshingly aligned with user interests.

For many, Bluesky is becoming a haven from the chaos of algorithm-driven platforms. While Twitter/X and Threads dominate the numbers game, Bluesky is carving out a space for authentic, algorithm-free connections.

With that, Liberty is now on Bluesky. You can find us here: libertycomms.bsky.social.

See you there!
